This Classic New Zealand Lambskin baby care rug has been ethically sourced and custom processed for Desert Breeze Distributing® by Auskin® - a premium global sheepskin producer with headquarters in Queensland, Australia. This pelt has been sourced from accredited farms where sheep are raised in the wide open, grassy pastures by farmers that adhere to the regulations and codes for the ethical treatment of animals set by the Animal Welfare Act. These regulations ensure that animals have sufficient food and water; adequate shelter; the opportunity to display normal patterns of behavior; appropriate physical handling; protection from and rapid diagnosis of injury and disease. Farmers must meet an animal’s physical, health, and behavioral needs, and must alleviate pain or distress.
The pelts are processed according to strict quality, environmental, and safety standards in the Auskin® owned and operated facility in Xuanhua, North West of Beijing, China. At this facility, tanning techniques are approached like a craft. After 25+ years of experience in the industry, Auskin® Technical Director Leroy Parker emphasizes, “Tanning the highest quality sheepskin is as much an art as it is a science.” The result is an extremely high quality, luxurious sheepskin.
The Auskin® facility maintains the following certifications: Woolmark® (providing assurance of the highest quality, representing pioneering excellence and innovation from farm to finished product), Intertek® (ensures products meet quality, health, environmental, safety, and social accountability standards), Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 (independently tested and guaranteed to be free of toxic dyes, nickel, formaldehyde, and numerous harmful chemicals, even if they are not yet legally regulated), membership in Sedex® (annual audits by SMETA to verify compliance with responsible supply chain activities, including labour rights, health & safety, the environment and business ethics).
